MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Police suspect the driver who struck and killed a cyclist on the southside early Monday morning may have been intoxicated.
CBS News reports that officers with the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a crash on Hiawatha Avenue at East 35th Street at about 3 a.m. yesterday.
They arrived to find a seriously injured man in his 50s. Officers administered first aid, including CPR, and then arranged for his transport to Hennepin Healthcare, where he subsequently died.
Initial investigations suggest that the man was hit by a southbound Ford Edge while he was riding a bicycle. Officers took the Edge’s 23-year-old male driver to the hospital and executed a search warrant. They booked the man into Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and believe he was intoxicated at the time.
Police continue to investigate the incident. It is unclear if a court date has been set yet.
