COTTONWOOD COUNTY, MN – New details about the head-on collision on Highway 71 that claimed the lives of five and injured nine others reveal that the van involved in the crash carried a family celebrating a birthday, Bring Me The News reports.
The collision occurred near 240th Street in Germantown Township around 4:40 pm on Friday, March 20. A Ford Transit collided with a GMC Terrain SUV driven by 67-year-old Martin Hanson of Springfield, who was killed in the collision.
The Ford carried 74-year-old Richard Johnson, who was celebrating his birthday with his wife, Kathleen, two daughters, Kelly Hargus and Lindsey Rossow, and several other family members. All four were killed in the collision, and eight other family members were injured.
Hanson reportedly did not have a driver’s license. The investigation remains under investigation.
