GOLDEN VALLEY, MN – Two men were hospitalized and put under arrest yesterday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase across the west side of Minneapolis that ended in a collision in Golden Valley.
CBS News says that the chase began when police responded to reports of a burglary in the 100 block of 97th Street in Bloomington at about 7:20 Thursday morning. Police apparently attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle they believe was involved in the break-in. However, the driver did not stop. Instead, the stolen vehicle sped away and then collided with another car at the intersection of 98th Street and Lyndale Avenue.
The driver of the stolen vehicle exited the car, then stole a black SUV to continue his flight.
Police gave chase and pursued the SUV across the west side of Minneapolis until it crashed near the interchange of I-394 and Highway 100 in Golden Valley. Two men got out and ran across the highway pursued by police and K-9 units.
Police eventually apprehended both men after a foot chase that involved at least one of them plunging into a residential pond. They have been identified only as a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both residents of Minneapolis. Authorities transported them to the hospital for treatment and then arrested them.
It is unclear whether anyone else was injured in the various collisions.
