MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Authorities have charged the man they say fatally struck a woman on MN-252 and then fled the scene early Tuesday morning.
This story updates our previous reporting.
The fatal collision happened at around 1:30 a.m. in the shouthbound lanes between Brookdale Drive and 73rd Avenue. Police say that the victim, 25-year-old Amiah Armstrong Walker, had gotten out of a vehicle because of a fight she had with the driver. The driver was attempting to convince Walker to get back in the vehicle when she was hit by a southbound Toyota RAV4 as she was standing in the shoulder. The RAV4 drove off without stopping.
Emergency responders pronounced Walker dead at the scene.
Police have since arrested Ryant Tarnue Freeman, 23, after determining that his RAV4 had damage patterns consistent with the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. For his part, Freeman allegedly told police that his vehicle may have been stolen.
Freeman is now facing charges of criminal vehicular homicide. We do not know when his next court date is scheduled for.
